Pamplona-Iruña: working together with a school in Nicaragua

Eunate Secondary School and San Ignacio School in Nicaragua (Fe y Alegría community) have been working together in a project work to increase awareness among young people about education and the way of living of young people in the Centro American country. A group of teachers from Nicaragua visited Eunate School on the 27th of April, inside this cooperation between the education centres of both countries.

Our students of Second Year of Bachillerato (Psychology subject) were the main organized of the event and welcomed the Nicaraguan teachers warmly with an aurresku (a typical Basque dance to show people respect). These teachers shared the social reality of their country and their education system with Eunate students and teachers. In addition, Eunate community showed their school and country reality.

The cooperation between the two schools was inside a collaborative project organized by Alboan in order to share the preoccupation and reflexion of the importance of education in any context. Students and teachers of both schools have been working previously sharing tasks to fulfil this objective of mutual understanding and cooperation. It has been done inside the frame of SAME (Week of World Action for Education).

This event has also been done in the frame of our Erasmus project to increase awareness of youth against social exclusion.  It was a great opportunities to get to know other realities and the hardness of a lot of youngsters to be able to access to education and have an opportunity to achieve a better life. It must be taken into account that Somotillo is a very deprived area in Nicaragua and most families are very poor.
