Joensuu: City theatre

29/9/2017 Joensuu: City theatre

The play is called Koirantähdestä pohjoiseen (from the dog star to the north). It tells about asylum seekers who have to left their own homecountries and start one of the most dangerous journey on the earth because they are in danger in their homecountries.

Preparing of the play the actors and other playworkers interviewd asylum seekers in the reception centres and in the support housing in Joensuu, they watched some documents of the life of refugees and they did workshops with the asylum seekers where they prepared the play and got to know the young.

The thing what got stuck in my mind is the work of police, government and the citizens in Finland. They are rude and cruel for the refugees and others who are not or whos parents are not born in Finland. It is like they are afraid of the world and things getting changed and being more different than they used to be and they just want everything to be just like things used to be.

After the play we had a chance to talk with the actors and we got a chance to ask questions of the play and how they felt while preparing and doing the play. They said that the experience was like their eyes and mind opened more. Also I felt that. I feel like I can see the world from the bigger perspective now than I used to see it.

The actors were fantastic! They showed very well how bad things can get in this world and how bad the life can be. They also showed very well how the refugees life is like a very big mess what they think they can not solve if they do not believe that life can get better if you believe in it.

The storyline was really great and done very well. The actors did awesome work and there was only three of them. There was also a lot of characters and they played all of them. There wasn’t much scenery but they played very well with them. They were suitable for all scenes.

The beginning was interesting and deep because they created the world where we are living right now, every cretures and places, stars, but also fights. And everything started to go wrong after that.
